Watch The Bob Mintzer Big Band & Bob with other ensembles On The Web
For those of you who have never seen the Bob Mintzer Big Band live, here is your chance - virtually that is.

The Big Band was recorded live (with 7 cameras, no less) at the 21st Annual New Trier High School Jazz Festival on February 7, 2004 in Winnetka, IL. It is the full two set performance.

Bob also played with the Jazz Director's Big Band as well as the New Trier HS Jazz Ensemble I. Those videos were captured as well.

The videos can be seen here. Enjoy!
Looking for Bob's CDs?
It has come to our attention that some of Bob's older CDs are getting hard to find. Some of the older recordings are apparently out of print. To make things easy, in the Links To Purchase CDs, the CDs that are easily obtained are linked to the shopping section of Yellowjackets.com. Anything that is harder to find is linked to its entry at Half.com, where you might find some new (but old) stock, or a used copy. eBay is another option.

NOTE: BobMintzer.com is not responsible for any purchases made through another website. This information is provided for informational purposes only.

Bob's Tribute To Michael Brecker (1949 - 2007)

As many of you know, Bob and Michael Brecker were both friends and colleagues who worked together on many projects over the years. Read Bob's note to see his heartfelt tribute to someone who will be sorely missed in the jazz community. BobMintzer.com sends its condolences to the entire Brecker family (including the extended family of friends and those who loved his music) and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they go through this difficult time.

Bob's Latest Projects

The latest Bob Mintzer Quartet CD In The Moment. Click here
. Here is a review from http://www.soundsoftimelessjazz.com/:

Then suddenly it hit him! These collected, maybe even lost sounds come through Bob Mintzer's horn with a new direction, a new lilt, a new freedom. With harmonies that sound like they could have come from decades forward, Bob Mintzer, Jay Anderson, Phil Markowitz and John Riley take on such classics as Eddie Harris' "Listen Here," Styne & Cahn's "Time After Time," and six Mintzer originals with such amazing creativity that they will knock your socks off! Mintzer's fresh riffs and spontaneous interaction with his band mates' groove, proves that his stimulating solos build a good feeling that has become widely appreciated and unpredictable. Not since John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins laid their saxophonics on the jazz world has a tenor saxophonist become so poised to step forward and offer a quartet that features so much virtuosity and brilliant musicality as offered by these four. The music has lots of room for improvisation and conversation as indicated by the amazing fleetness of Markowitz on piano and the articulate plucking by Anderson on acoustic bass. These blowing sessions not only showcase Mintzer trading fours and swinging with drummer John Riley, find him revisiting the bass clarinet on "What's The Word". This CD is definitely IN THE MOMENT and should be in your jazz collection. Five stars! SOTJ top picks: "Straight Ahead," and the ballad "Forgiveness."

"Tackling tradition and applying innovation has long been a hallmark of Bob Mintzer’s career. He’s paid his dues, both in old school circles and in the realm of contemporary jazz. As evidenced through his big band’s 2004 and ’05 appearances in Pittsburgh, new lessons continue to bring joy to both creator and audience." - Jim Santella, All About Jazz
