Thanks, Ziv Carla, my wife, played flute at one time. She is “one of the cats”. Carla got involved with early childhood development and now teaches perspective teachers of the subject and also works with young children with special needs and their families.
Our son Paul did play clarinet for several years, and learned the discipline involved with playing an instrument well. He decided music was not his passion, and moved on. He currently is a stylist for entertainers, and has an amazing eye for fashion. He buys me my best clothes!

I always wanted to ask you this question, and here you are answering all I wanted to know, before I even asked…
What a wonderful insight of this important aspect of your life.
Bob, you’re a wonderful person, I really enjoy everything you do, your music, your blogs…
I’m happy to hear you’ve managed to have a family life too, even your career as musician makes it difficult.
If I’m not mistaking, your wife is also a musician, right?
How about the kids? Are they also into playing music?

Hey there Bob!

I ALWAYS look foward to these anecdotes of yours.Brilliantly told.Your a helluva a writer too.You ought to compile and publish a book of them. Your right , simple folk like me would just die to have an experience like that! Driving on some obscure Brazilian coastline and dodging donkeys to a gig !.Don’t need to tell you that you are blessed to have such a great job. Just wanna repeat that we are thankful for the great music you and the Jackets’ have put out and will continue to put out for many years to come.Its an added plus to know that the “people” behind the great music are just as great as well. Jazz…….or Music in general needs more people like you …..

Hello Bob,
My father Leo was a woodwind player who contributed to developing the Central Ave scene in Los Angeles in the early ’40s with Gerald Wilson. He started with Jimmie Lunceford in the ’30s, and played on the East and West Coasts for quite a while.. I happen to be a percussionist, and am very proud of my “Jazz lineage.” I saw you all a Catalina Bar and Grill a few years back and have followed your work almost as long as I can remember. What you and your colleages are doing is art in its most beautiful, powerful, and noble form; …. It is of the highest order, because it affects lives for good (I can attest to that from my own experience with your music), and that my friend is its greatest purpose, and you guys are accomplishing that and more. It is not only a great gift to the world, but an awesome calling for you guys.. God bless you Bob.. Keep writing, teaching, blowing, and swinging!!!!

Hey Bob, thanks again for sharing your thoughts; another awesome post. As musicians, all we can do is strive to make whatever it is we are playing as beautiful as possible. As an audience member
or as a performer, I’ve always loved that feeling of joy and comraderie that can occur in a live music setting.

Bob, I’ll share with you what I shared at “Joys and Sorrows” at church today: On 9/11 our nation and the world became one. The unique opportunity to unite in common purpose to eradicate fundamentalist terrorism came and went. If America had had leadership with vision and courage we could have united the world in the pursuit of enlightenment and peace. Instead, we invaded Iraq. What a waste. What a colossal waste!

There is talk of a possible tour in europe next summer with Bobby. Too soon to tell if it will go beyond talk. We did play a bunch of the Bang Zoom tunes this summer with Bobby. Hope to see you!
